Planning
Like any good business model, an email marketing campaign must have a plan.
There are certain components that must be incorporated in your message to be
CAN-SPAM compliant. So before you create your ad copy make sure you include the
following items in each email.
Your "from address" must be valid, you can opt to have your company or personal
name
as well as your email address displayed.
Make sure a working method to unsubscribe is available
either via a direct link or instructions on where to unsubscribe. Also ensure
you
can
manage
the requests within 10 days of receipt.
Make sure your subject line is not misleading, be honest!
You must include your physical mailing address somewhere within each email.
Also consider these important points in the planning stage of your email campaign.
Are you prepared to reply to inbound emails or phone requests after the promotion
is sent? Being available to assist after the campaign is just as important as
the campaign itself.
Know what day of the week (as well as time of day) you are planning on mailing.
Statistically, certain days have better results but often this is relative
to the product/service you are offering, and your targeted market.
Decide what format (text, HTML or both) you prefer to use. Confirm if you need
outside assistance with message creation
and timeline required.
Don’t rush your campaign, test all aspects of your message and make sure you
always
send
test
emails to yourself, prior sending to your entire mailing list.
Continue to next step Subject Line.
