Deliverability and Email Checklist

Before you hit the send button, there are a few other factors that you should review. The last steps are to ensure you have reviewed the best deliverability process, after taking the time to create a strong valid campaign you want to know that you have the best chance of your email being received. Check out these articles for various issues on deliverability.

Here is a list that you should review and answer Yes to before you start your email marketing campaigns.

1) Do you have permission to email your list? Use a two-step permission base format to ensure your list is double opts in. Remember email marketing is a reflection of your company and brand.

2) Does the message include a working and easy to find unsubscribe link/option? Honor the unsubscribe requests immediately.

3) Keep your list clean – remove undeliverable emails promptly, this helps with overall mailing performance.

4) Did you include the physical address of the sender?

5) Test your message across various email clients (i.e. AOL, Hotmail, Earthlink and Yahoo!) to ensure images are functioning and appearance is professional.

6) Have you used a valid "from address" that identifies your company or product?

7) Keep your subject line straight forward but still have impact.

8) Can you read the full subject line in your email client?

9) Have you included your contact information so recipients can email or call?

10) Proofread all the text, always get a second reader if available.

11) Test all hyperlinks to ensure they are working and lead to the correct location.

12) Did you link to your website?

13) Did you do a test campaign with your email-sending vehicle to make sure it sends message as composed and without advertisements.

14) If tracking, test and check reports to make sure they are functioning.

15) Did you include a link at the top of your message where a hosted version of your email can be found?

16) Is the most important part of your message easily seen in preview pane?

17) Check your IP to see if you are blacklisted. Many major ISP use blacklist as a series of checks, use a service to verify if you are listed. If you are listed, get removed before doing your mailing.

18) Confirm if your internet provider has email volume restrictions, if they do, comply with them and send your campaign in batches accordingly.

19) List and message quality supersedes list size or speed of mailing.

20) If you get any complaints from your email campaign, deal with them immediately and personally.
